Two-stroke chainsaw oil need about 2-5% in the lubrication of motor fuel, and in the electric chain saw motor typically lubricated for life.

Single chain oil or oil bar for bar and chain lubrication for all types of chain saw. Chain oil was quickly exhausted, as it tends to a centrifugal force from the chain, which is absorbed by sawdust. Two-stroke chain saw chain oil reservoir is at the same time as the fuel is usually full. Reservoir is usually large enough to provide sufficient chain oil between refueling. Lack of chain oil, or use of incorrect oil viscosity, is to chain saw damage to the common source, and often leads to rapid wear of the bar, rod or chain seizure or loss. In addition to being relatively thick, sticky oil is particularly chain (As the "tackifier" additive), to reduce the amount thrown off the chain. Although oil is a common emergency alternatives, it's even faster leaf loss and other lubrication chain.

Chain must be kept sharp to perform well. They quickly become blunt, if they touch the soil, metal or precious stones. When the blunt, often produce powdery sawdust, instead of the long, clean wood shavings characteristic sharp chain; sharp saw little need to force the operators to push it into the cut. Special soil hardened chain (tungsten carbide) is used to cut pollution where possible, such as those used by root cutting applications.

Air intake filters are often clogged with sawdust. It must be cleaned from time to time, but not a problem during normal operation.
